For the love of Pines - research work - in progress

This is an ongoing part of my practice where I create several smaller works as research and methodology .

Pine trees hold a special place in my practice, both materially and reverently. I am drawn to them not only for their quiet presence in the landscape, but for their long history of medicinal use.

Their resin, needles, and scent carry associations of healing, protection, and endurance. Working with foraged pine resin, I create natural paints that are rich, tactile, and deeply connected to the tree itself; the act of collecting and preparing it feels like a slow exchange, a moment of listening as much as taking.

The needles, too, become part of this dialogue, gathered carefully and used in weaving and sculptural forms that you can see here, retain the memory of the tree’s structure and rhythm.

There is no definite idea for what the piece will become I just go with the feel of the work as it progresses. Bringing in othere natural elements feels symbiotic. I use collected, dried and rehydrated daffodil stalks, or other plant leaves, hemp twin, and hag stones found on the beach, they all resonate and draw on thier own natural presence within the piece.

Through these processes, pine becomes more than a material; it is a collaborator, offering both substance and guidance, shaping the work through its own qualities while grounding my practice in a relationship built on respect, reciprocity, and care.
