Future Seedpod Fossil

Makers Using Technology residency, National Centre for Product Design and Research. I trained to use Freeform 3D software and was introduced to 3D scanning and printing technologies. The learning process and my research into flower morphology and evolution - in particular Polygonaceae, the knotweed family plants - led to the production of the 3D printed artworks. Ref: Mabey, Richard. "Weeds: How Vagabond Plants Gatecrashed Civilisation and Changed the Way We Think About Nature" These small scale sculptures are machine made. While manufactured the 3D seedpod was printed with a resin (plastic) and simultaneously a support structure was printed in wax. The support structure was melted away at the end of 3D the printing process.
