Gadfly Nine

Gadfly Nine offsets reciprocating spirals and questions to what extent colour or tone dominate perception. The paint is looser and thicker than preceding work in the series and the “grouting” is metallic gold, The painting plays with figure/ground ambiguity whilst the basic drawing continues the relationship of the series to ancient Gorgoneion mosaics.
As ever, there are tangles of influences resulting in suggestions of a web or net in a painting entwined in metaphor.
