Gadfly Twelve

Gadfly Twelve continues the series of paintings that refers to the apotropaic qualities of dizzying pattern. I am a little surprised that I have produced a cheerful and lively body of work in response to a difficult and threatening situation in 2020. The spiraling shapes create the dominant pattern while the lines form others. Many of the paintings in this series might seem to be superficially based on the same design yet, with each development, the underlying drawing is changed slightly. Inaccuracies are intentional inconsistencies which attain more individuality and energy than would be produced by technical or robotic drawing.
