Printmaking has played a vital role in the production of these brightly coloured glass cubes. The designs incorporate the printed work made by a collection of adults, young people and children. These included a number of shoppers visiting the Metrocentre, a collection of staff based in the shopping centre and community groups based in Gateshead. Participants were shown how to make simple prints representing their personal experience of childhood play, games and rhymes. These ideas form the theme of each cube and have been screen-printed using vitreous enamel. The techniques used in screen-printing allowed some of the original designs made by participants to be incorporated into the glass cubes.
