Dimensions
55cm x 60cm x 40cm

One of a series of sandblasted glass constructions resting on concrete blocks. The form is taken from a layout plan of an ancient Persian garden based on a quarterised pattern or chahar bagh. These were earthly reflections of paradise, later based on descriptions of paradise in Islam. The designs are of found Iranian images and old Persian textile patterns, flowing and organic, which contrast with the more minimal architectural structure of the plan made three dimensional. The work is informed by ideas in the writing of Sir Thomas Browne's Garden of Cyrus and Adolf Loos' Ornament and Crime.
