Green Fire Over The Valley

Green Fire Over the Valley is painted on repurposed Welsh slate, whose dark surface, irregular edges and material history remain active within the image. Layers of oil, oil pastel and oil stick form a luminous, shifting landscape in which green appears as flame, vegetation, mineral light or an atmospheric presence passing across the land.

The work moves between abstraction and landscape, suggesting a valley seen through memory rather than direct observation. The title evokes both renewal and danger: fire becomes a force of illumination and transformation, while the slate carries geological time, extraction, labour and previous use. The painted image and the stone support remain inseparable, creating a threshold between the physical landscape and an imagined, interior terrain.
