Grounding Painting Experiment, blue and green

By  Puy Soden 2016 - 2024

This artwork started during one of the many Grounding Painting Experiments that I carried out as part of my practice-led PhD research. Eight years later, I completed the painting with the blue and green paint protagonists of more recent figure-ground experiments. The painting is both a record of my haptic immersion in the literal ground of the Earth and an investigation into how we perceive figure and ground in painting. Most simply, the artwork invites the viewer to consider the interaction of the three planes and how the painting demonstrates that artworks, and all beings, are always much more than the sum of our parts.
