Guadarrama

By George Taylor 2011

Dimensions
67cms x 48cms

Minimalist paper, cord and painted collage, substantially comprised of torn and cut packaging materials; having broad allusions to the Pass of Guadarrama, near Madrid where intensive fighting took place in the Spanish Civil War. Robert Motherwell's 'Elegy to the Spanish Republic 70'' of 1961, and the over 150 others of a similar theme and title, have had a lasting influence on my career and this I acknowledge in the Guadarrama series; as I do, the iconic Picasso masterpiece, 'Guernica'.
