Harlequin Car

By  Ann Denison 2007

Ann Denison

Dimensions
120cm x 152cm

Focusing upon the rise of the car, the work is influenced by the style of Picasso - especially his Paul as Harlequin [1924] - to highlight the way in which nature is 'squeezed out' by the urban architecture necessitated by the demands of our consumerism. The metaphor of giving birth is used as a bleak but humorous reference to the ever-growing car "population".
