This work revolves around the concept of heat and the transformation of an object through entropy.
I had been examining the Giant's Causeway in Ireland and the six-sided hexagonal forms, which also include three, five, seven, and eight-sided shapes that tower and stretch over the headland. I also discovered that similar forms have recently been identified on our nearest neighbouring planet, Mars! I have always been intrigued by Sol LeWitt's colourful, formulaic line work and to incorporate this drawing process into a stack of random hexagons became the narrative I needed. By using colours rising from a dark, graphite-burnt base, it reminded me of watching a fire and observing light rising and the force that produced twisting shapes from the dark interior of the charred wood.
