Hidden Depths series (i), 2006-17

The Hidden Depths series (i) was developed over a long period of time, around 2006 to 2017. A large body of studies and fully realised expressive paintings were created. The large 'Hidden depths' feature painting is the most important fully realised piece that emerged from the series in 2010. This expressive series explored the texture and movement of the sea, sky and coastal vegetation whilst I was living and working at Gwithian in St. Ives bay. Gwithian is also where I grew up and I have lived in the area most of my life. The Hidden Depths refers to the fact that what we see is only the surface, the unknown depths of what happens under the sea also reflects the unknown depths of a persons mind, soul and experiences... In this photo gallery are few examples from the first series which are relevant to a new Hidden Depth series that I am working on now in 2019.
