A collaboration with Kate Miller at The Red House Museum Gardens in Christchurch. The project was hosted by Hampshire County Council Museums Service and funded jointly by Southern Arts, Dorset County Council, Hampshire County Council and Christchurch Council. We made an installation using cultivated willow, and hedge trimmings of ash and hazel. Kate used the willow and I used the ash and hazel. The starting point for our work was "The Hedge" and the resulting form was a hedge-like structure containing a series of nests in two spirals across an area of lawn. Texts written on streamers of unravelled videotape, relating to the site and to our researches into hedges and hedge-making, were woven into the structure and visitors to the site were encouraged to add their own thoughts. During the time our installation was in place we ran a series of workshops for local schools.
