Hocus Porcus 123

By  Laura Lulika 2024

An experiment into the ways capitalism attempts to contain the messy and grotesque experiences of being a living creature: Our bodily processes and interconnected experiences with each other, human or non-human.

Using compostable materials that would absorb the environment, the sticky and drippy Queenspark Glasshouse, the work over time went moldy, rotted, shrank and was eaten by cockroaches, to be thrown back onto the compost heap at the end.

On a perpetual quest to be less wasteful in my art making and using materials and processes that don't cause inflammatory responses in my own body, everything was made from scrap or plants.

This work was part of the group exhibition, Un*natural Urges which included sculptural artists, Clay AD and Jack Murphy, with a collaborative sound-work by Hang Linton and curatorial support from Zoe Tumika.
