There is Strength in Softness

The back waiting area was developed by Roo Dhissou through a series of workshops with a group of teenagers who have used Sandwell CAMHS. The group worked together to explore how the room functions for different people and to make it more welcoming and interactive. Please touch and explore everything!

The artwork includes:
A pegboard with colourful shapes which can be rearranged

A book and zine corner with shelving and a seat for housing things to read and draw while you wait

A cosy manji seat (based on a traditional Punjabi daybed) for relaxing on

Blankets and cushions for getting cosy or fort building

A plant wall to make the space more homely. The plant wall structure doubles as a cosy nook for young people to sit or play in.

 

The room was designed by Roo with carpenter Matt Foster who built the wooden structures. Roo was supported by her access support worker and partner Fred Hubble who is also an artist.

Roo worked with the Sandwell CAMHS from May 2023 until July 2024.
