HYPERDYSTOPIA is a series of textile sculptures digitally collaged into photographs taken along the Thames Path during the COVID-19 lockdown. Inspired by the shifting forms of clouds seen from aeroplane windows—soft and protective in appearance, yet ultimately offering no safety—the work reflects the emotional contradictions of that time: fear and uncertainty alongside comfort and reflection.
The sculptures, influenced by childhood objects and memories, take on strange, organic forms that suggest both vulnerability and resilience. Set against bleak, empty landscapes, they evoke a sense of quiet unease and surreal dislocation.
Through this combination of sculpture and digital collage, HYPERDYSTOPIA explores how familiar, comforting forms can exist within unsettling environments, highlighting the tension between external chaos and inner coping mechanisms during crisis.
