I’m Looking at the View, Close to the Edge

This painting grew from my fascination with the way landscape can hold memory. I don’t begin with a particular place in mind; I work intuitively, allowing shapes, colours and fragments to emerge through the process of painting.

The landscape feels familiar but impossible to locate — somewhere between the remembered and the imagined. Forms appear, disappear and overlap, creating a shifting sense of place.

I build the surface through layers, scraping back and painting again, allowing traces of earlier decisions to remain. This process reflects the way memory itself is continually altered, lost and rediscovered.

For me, the painting is less a depiction of a particular landscape than an imagined place — somewhere between the external world and inner experience.
