Exhibition installation view: Millais Gallery. Southampton Institute 5 – 26 May 2001. Intimate Foundations was Browns' first major solo exhibition, which toured South East England during 2000 – 2001. The exhibition featured 22 works created between 1998 – 2000, and were reconstructed from vintage garments associated with the female body. The exhibition included a series of drawings, and raised issues around female identity, public image and private self. Intimate Foundations was supported by a small publication, a limited edition of 300. The exhibition was funded by the Arts Council of England South East. Intimate Foundations opened at Maidstone Library Gallery, Kent in September 2000. The exhibition then toured to Hove Museum and Art Gallery. After Hove Museum the exhibition was scheduled to tour to The Winchester Gallery, 24 April – 11 May 2001. Due to flooding at The Winchester Gallery, Intimate Foundations had to be rescheduled to The Millais Gallery at the Southampton Institute in May 2001.
