Joined Up Thinking

3d site specific and site created painted marks assembled in the Clayden Gallery, Newport, Isle of Wight. people can walk around and through the painting. I use painted marks on transparent materials so we see only the paint, colour, gesture.

I have a screen ( from working with shop windows) so people can see through it and make their own painted marks to visualy join their own marks with those installed by the artist. To help, the artist supplied card viewfinders, so people could look through and frame what they saw. People then took photos - the 3d installation - and magically had a flat 2 dimensional image of an abstract painting. People could then upload and share their images via an instagram page @thepaintingisee.

I know that everyone sees the same thing differently and takes a different image of what is the same subject. In Joined Up Thinking I learnt that there are infinite images people can take, and that people use paint in different ways…all using Paint in their own way, become connected to the idea that paint can be used to express themselves, and so frame and photograph their own images.

When the work ended, what is left are the images form the public, as document.
