Leatherette sculpture with rocks

I chose to use leatherette fabric as the surface material for outdoor sculptures for a range of reasons: it can be folded and rolled (so easily transported) and sewn and cut into different shapes. One of its sides can be wiped clean from the marks it receives when I use it outdoors. The other side would need washing if I wanted to remove stains…. I prepare such a sheet in the studio and when outdoors, I use it with wooden sticks and string to prop it up above the ground. I complement the installation with arches made from thin leatherette tunnels and fine, long pine sticks. I find it interesting to look at the sculpture outdoors and contemplate how the other objects and landscape features have surfaces, are elevated above the ground (or not) and how the sculpture connects or is distant from other elements in the environment.
