library Hive

Library Hive was part of a site responsive exhibition at Conway Hall, Holborn, London. Conway Hall has a long history as an independent landmark of intellectual, political and cultural life. This work is fabricated to fit the round ceiling window in the humanist library and archive. The work references the bee hives situated on the roof above the library and prompts thoughts of network culture as a means of considering matter growth patterns and societal structures. Library Hive is an event sculpture as its appearance alters considerably according to the light or dark through the window. The structure bulges through the portal; the propagating cells imply a disturbance of the space, perhaps even an infestation
