"LIFE" & "MOVEMENT"

By  William Luz 2025

Photograph by Dom Moore

Presentation of work in Gallery 333 at The Exeter Phoenix. 333 is a vitrine like window space inset into a wall in the interior of the building. This work is an attempt to contain drawing, to make a container for the activity of drawing. A figure, drawn onto the rear of the space, after Willian Blake’s Urizen, hemmed in, or maybe comfortable in their containment, is overlaid, overlapped, with drawing. An archive of parts from the studio, cut up, reformed, layered and pieced together; a document of action and inaction, drawing and not, a montage of many little moments.

Pencil, ink, pastel, charcoal, photocopy, vinyl, chalk paint, oil stick, elastic band, polyfiller, chalk, tape, ceramic, wire, thread, nails, feathers, paper, plywood, drafting film, concrete, perspex
