"Map Brush"

By  Tim Pugh 2016
The mixed media installation was created in a broadleaf woodland on the slopes of Dent hill, near Cleator in West Cumbria in November 2016.I wanted to create a woodland brush,as if to sweep away the Autumn leaves and attached collected spindly ash twigs onto a branch .I embossed the branch with ordnance survey map text and attached site specific sections tightly bound around the surface. The artwork was then propped up against a beech tree as if about to be put to use.The intention was to create a tool artifact that conveyed a sense of other worldliness, tapping into the mystic atmosphere of the ancient woodland and surrounding area .
