Mapping the Desert

This work is made in the American West and is influenced by the tradition of 19th century topographic surveys as well as more recent concerns with the exploitation of natural resources. The montaged elements are inspired by Constructivist philosophies that originated in Russia and Native American song mapping, alluding to the desire to measure and frame our perceptions of the landscape and its unfathomable nature.
