Following on from the Auto-Haunt installation, I am continuing to research disabled deities and sick icons.
This gender-queer Sheela Na Gig was made using expired hot water bottles, a common and ancient pain management tool used by people who are sick and in pain. It is decorated with hormone patch backings and has health supporting herbs suspended from it.
I made this as a gift for a sick friend rather than for work specific reasons and I think when you make something with someone you love in mind it adopts so much more spirit than when you are making something for work purposes.
I like to play with light and shadow and the ghostly figures that creates.
