Measuring States/Ephemeral Bodies

By  Tracy Hill 2021 - 2025

Measuring States and Ephemeral Bodies were created as part of Porosity φ (2021), which investigated how the
walking body can detect visual and sonic traces enabling the senses to reveal unseen subterranean landscapes. Two hand-cut paper panels are hung in combination with a unique floor drawing created using carborundum to visualise imperceptible vibrations below
ground.

My works are presented in response to St Mary’s Well by Edwin Robert Beattie, acknowledging Preston’s historic spiritual beliefs and extending a proposition to consider how invisible springs and traces of energy running below ground continue to influence our
connection to landscape and place.
