Medway Shadow Piece (Daniels)

By  Jane Ponsford 2011

Jane Ponsford

This piece is from a series made in response to specific places and landscapes and to found objects within those spaces. It was made while I was working on a residency on the Medway estuary in Kent. Selected for 'First Anniversary: Paper' exhibition in 2011 at Unit Twelve, Staffordshire The paper is coloured with dirt and pigment from the rusty wire. I love working with paper pulp because it has such a receptive surface. The cast shapes are made to catch the light and to cast shadows.

Way-markers: cluster

Cast lengths of handmade paper grouped together to form a landscape inspired by contours on a map. Made with The Junior Art School at The Lightbox Gallery, Woking as part of the 'Recycled By Design' project. First shown in a solo exhibition, 'Translations', at the Lightbox in 2008, this is one of several iterations of the work.

The Lie of the Land

Made over the course of twelve months. Sampled dust, soil and found pigments, 365 sheets of handmade paper. This constitutes a kind of diary of a year. This was made during a residency in Elmbridge in Surrey. Project supported by Arts Council England, The R C Sherriff Trust, Elmbridge Borough Council, Surrey Arts, Surrey County Council.
