Merthyr Tydfil Bus Station & Link Bridge Project

Aerial Image: MLA Photography

Merthyr Tydfil was once described as the Iron Capital of the World. It has a unique industrial legacy. The development of a new Central Bus Station for Merthyr Tydfil is one of the last major regeneration projects for the heart of the town centre and is a central driver for the rebirth of the town as a gateway to the Brecon Beacons and an Educational Centre. The artist will work as part of a multi disciplinary design team to look for opportunities to contribute to the design of the bus station both in terms of function, aesthetics & history. This commission is based on the enabling the artist to influence the design process & the design of an important element within the town’s transport infrastructure and a focal building within the townscape. The artist will bring a new perspective to the design team crossing traditional skills boundaries and linking different design disciplines." I will be collaborating and working alongside Capita Symonds, Mott MacDonald, Knight Architects & Arts Council Wales as well as local authority agencies and stakeholders. The brief and scope is wide ranging at this stage, but is focussed on the use of research led contextual studies with which to influence the design process and eventual outcome of the project.
