Mitatun (Finnish for Measured). Cyanotype scroll measuring the UV levels of lake Kilpisjärvi on the approach to the equinox. Research indicates the vertical migration of Daphnia is accelerated with changes to UV and water temperature. UV levels recorded day and night on the lakeside record direct UV but also the hidden ecosystems amongst the rocks which harvest UV and reflect back over night. Each layer of the scroll represents one day and twilight period (no night in September in Finland) as the weeks progress the days shorten heading to the equinox. This is reflected in the panels. The dark blue indicates the daytime exposure, the light blue is the twilight.
