Interface I-IV

Interface is a new series of prints on the main gallery wall, inspired by the Lichen communities found at Allan Bank and the reimagined micro worlds and structures on which they grow. 

The prints are created using traditional stone lithography and cyanotype.  Initial drawings are created using stone lithography, the resulting images are photographed and translated into photographic positives.  Watercolour paper was prepared with a light sensitive cyanotype solution and exposed using the lithographic positive image and developed in water. 

These cyanotypes pay homage to early botanical studies by women such as Anna Atkins who quietly defied the Victorian gender norms that restricted women from scientific and academic pursuits by mastering what was then a complex new technology to document botanical specimens.
