Mothering Tongue

Mothering Tongue is an immersive installation: an assortment of ceramic vessels that draw on the historical connections and meaning of gossip, and reflecting on the nature of gossip today as a support structure for woman. The interlinked ceramics are inspired by medieval drinking vessels - fuddling cups. The works house a new sound piece which captures the voices of women in their raw, unfiltered state. They express scattered thoughts, everyday worries, and whispered concerns. These fragmented voices, playing through ceramic vessels, remind us of the hidden emotional labour women carry daily.
