Moths and Moons - The Passenger and the Exile

The piece comes from a series of works called 'Moths and Moons', an exhibition designed to accompany the facsimile of the Lindisfarne Gospels on its tour throughout the north east of England. The series is made up of a number of variations on a theme based on the geometry of the carpet pages contained within the gospels and using native British moths. Moths are creatures of the night who come in an amazing range of shapes and markings and whose anatomy conforms to that of circles, squares and triangles. All of the pieces are produced using naturally occurring pigments applied to discarded library books.
