Mysteries One

This little painting follows the rather odd and lopsided perspective found in Roman Painting. It wants to break some rules, to have “squares” that are not square and not centred, to seem faded and a bit damaged.
This is the first of a series of paintings following a visit to the archaeological sites around the Bay of Naples and a startling and stimulating encounter with Roman Painting in situ.
The paintings abstract elements of the experience of that discovery and do not seek to copy the paintings or their original intentions.
