Ode to Idra

The sun's heat beaming on your skin, the reverberating sound of church bells in the morning, and the mesmerising colours of every sunset flawlessly concluding each day - all blend into a viscerally buoyant time. More joy, learning, and adventures came with each day and night that passed. I always felt at ease. During my artist residency with DescoverArtist in Hydra, I constantly felt in awe of the island. It provided time to reflect on my work and practice. Here, over three weeks, I was inspired to create Ode to Idra.

Ode to Idra is a pictorial love letter to the Greek island of Hydra, the spirit of travelling, and the space for introspection that the trip evoked. Away from home and routine, travelling sparks a unique and freeing feeling. With all its richness and serenity, Hydra was a gentle jolt to my system. When my stay ended, I felt the island embrace me one last time.
