On the way to Woking Palace

This piece is based on a ceramic Tudor toy horse from the heritage collection at The Lightbox. Horses suggest journeys and travel and this object represents the journey to Woking Palace along the Basingstoke Canal Path. The patterns on the horse represent the leaves encountered during this journey. The sculpture takes a similar form to the original. This work reflects an interest in objects which are broken and show signs of wear and tear, when working with objects blemishes in the design are retained to maintain a sense of the objects past.

This work is the permanent collection at the Lightbox as part of the 20/20 residency and commission developed by Decolonizing Institute, University of Arts, London
