OPEN BOOK

2016
Stainless steel and coloured stainless steel sculpture in the form of an open book. The red coloured stainless steel 'pages' are highly reflective and change colour with the changing light of day. People enjoy taking selfies of their reflections which give them the feeling of being in another world. These images provide the content of the book which are often carried around the world on the internet. The original idea was inspired by the dedicated work of an ancestor, the Rev Donald Maclean of Skye, who compiled the bibliography of the Gaelic language, thereby helping to save it. Open Book was gifted to the city of Paris by the Queen in 2014. A second edition was purchased for the Ekeberg Sculpture park, Oslo.
