Open Circle

Concentric space based on cylinders and circles that are both open and enclosing. Henge type construction on a hill suggests monuments with tangible but unknown use. Creates a focal space for a small London park otherwise intersected by numerous straight paths.
The fluted 'columns' are cast from various dustbins and buckets. Tactile coloured surfaces of polished and exposed stone with curves constructed from oak sleepers.
This commission involved workshops organised by the artist. Explored casting, carving and constructing with youth centre, local residents, St. Mungo's homeless centre and other regular users of the park. The final design evolved from casting sessions and in response to the way the park is used. Part of a wider park regeneration project. Now well used as a meeting place.
