Park Row Drawing

By Nick Cass 2011

'Junction is a series of temporary commissions for Leeds City Centre utilising the common place 'junction box' as its canvas' commissioned by Leeds Met Gallery and The Culture Company. Park Row Drawing ‘decorates’ the surface of the box on Park Row, using a motif taken from a 17th century wooden chest in the collection at Temple Newsam House. Redrawn to emphasise the denial of surface and three dimensionality which is found in surface pattern; this drawing has a correct perspective ‘viewpoint’ (close up to the box and looking downwards) and is geolocated so the shadows are correct to the specific location on Park Row (and the exact time of 4.10pm on 27th June 2011, shifting through the season by about 15 minutes per month, to 4.25pm on 27th July 2011 for example).
