Passing Moment

By  Jane Ponsford 2014 - 2015

Micheal Blair Phillips

An installation of handmade paper and found objects contained in fourteen glass vessels and a box frame, arranged to form a kind of interior landscape, evoking the memory of a walk along the local chalk paths. ‘Passing moment’ (title from a piece of writing by Doreen Massey about landscape), engages with the actual material of the Downland landscape, chalk, itself and also with the repetitive processes of collecting materials and walking on the chalk paths near Winchester. It grows from an ongoing landscape research project based on walks through the landscapes of Southern England. First shown in '10 Days: Chalk', at the City Museum, Winchester in 2015

A short walk

Cast lengths of handmade paper grouped together to form a landscape inspired by contours on a map. Made with The Junior Art School at The Lightbox Gallery, Woking as part of the 'Recycled By Design' project. First shown in a solo exhibition, 'Translations', at the Lightbox in 2008, this is one of several iterations of the work.
