PastTensePresent

By Peter Grego 2025

PastTensePresent, is a reflection on J.B.Priestley’s, An English Journey.  In his own words, ‘a Rambling but Truthful Account’ of a journey through England in Autumn 1933. It was a journey made in turbulent times, against the backdrop of Adolf Hitler’s appointment as German Chancellor.

The work was shown in the exhibition, Conversation with Books,  at the Courtyard Gallery, Solihull.  Each piece in the series features a digital collage of newspaper headlines with handwritten texts.

The written texts are taken from, An English Journey, the background newspaper headlines are contemporary.
