"Pebble Scratch Boulder"

By <a href="https://axisweb.org/artist/timpugh" title="Tim Pugh" class="inline font-bold underline transition-opacity duration-100 hover:opacity-50 focus:opacity-50"> Tim Pugh </a> 2019
The beach intervention was created at South Beach in West Cumbria in July 2019 and consists of circles embossed onto a smooth sandstone boulder. The pebbles were scratched onto the surface and originated from a spoil tip left over from the remains of an old coal mine next to the beach. The colours are as a result of the waste products tipped onto the shoreline and worn smooth by the action of sea erosion.I used circles to suggest a paint box or watercolour set and the artwork survived for a few days despite several downpours.
