Peterloo: Bolton Textile Works & the Fight for Democracy

By  Claire Barber 2019
‘Peterloo: Bolton’s Textile Workers and the Struggle for Democracy’ is an exhibition presented in the Up Close Gallery at Bolton Museum and curated by Matthew Watson to commemorate the people of Bolton who marched to St Peter’s Field, Manchester on 16 August 1819 to take part in a peaceful demonstration in support of parliamentary reform. Included in the exhibition are the names of 23 Bolton people who were injured at the demonstration, as well as specially commissioned artwork by Jennifer Gilmour and myself.
