Phaedra One

“Phaedra One” has taken motifs from an ancient Greek Krater that illustrates the Myth of Phaedra. I wonder if the vase painters referred to paintings, long since lost. The bronze central motif refers to the age when the mythical of Phaedra is set [Minoan Crete]. The painting is intentionally painterly and untidy suggesting old, unstable surfaces. Oil paint on canvas
