Plastic Viscera: Reconstruct & Regenerate

By  Simon Hall 2012

Simon Hall with Eleanor Crook

Artist residency with the Blond McIndoe Research Foundation (2012)

Simon was the first artist in residence at the Blond McIndoe Research Foundation at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead completing a project exploring emerging research in wound repair and tissue regeneration. Famous for their 'Guinea Pig Club' of surgically reconstructed burns casualties who fought in WWII, the charity founded by pioneering surgeon Sir Archibald McIndoe remains today at the forefront of wound healing research. Utilising archival material, bio-art growing skin cells in the laboratory, and sculptural workshops in collaboration with renowned sculptor Eleanor Crook, the public engagement art/science project explored stories of renewal and repair. Final work was exhibited at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (UK).
