"Pollen Bomb"

By  Joanne Risley 2019
The form is a geodesic sphere, with spikes and recesses, based on a pollen grain. When magnified some pollen grains are both strange and startling and appear slightly menacing. By replicating this form on a large scale in rusted steel, it transforms and takes on the appearance of a sea mine. I enjoy the ambiguity of these two ideas and created this 'alien being' in order to explore our fear of the unknown in a time of great uncertainty.
