Popty bach 2013

Louise Bird

I ran a pilot international artists workshop at my home, utilising scrap materials at alphabeds, our bed and mattress factory. We were 6 artists, 3 from southern Africa(Cliford Zulu Zimbabwe, Igshaan Adams and Witty Nyide South Africa) and 3 from the UK(Louise Bird Wales, Peter Baker England and myself) staying and working together for 10 days in September. We ended with an Open Day for visitors which brought students, artists and the general public to this rural location and has resulted in two documentaries made by other artists. It was modelled on Triangle Network international artist workshop lines as I have experienced in Johannesburg's Bag Factory studios. It was part funded by the Arts Council of wales as research and development for a full scale 20+ version I hope to set up in 2014 in Pembrokeshire. Popty bach means little bakehouse in Welsh.
