Jesmonite and Coal Dust.

Portals (2024) is a series of sculptures that refer to the liminal space between the landscape above and below ground. They convert the digital skins of LiDAR scans / 3D virtual models back in to physical form, building on a fascination Lucas has with digital translations of earthly materials. Made of jesmonite and coal dust, each sculpture refers to forms found in mine shafts and cave openings, where a variety of mythologies of the underworld seep in to the unconscious.
