Princess: Clock Ticking

By  Sarah Spanton 2007

Jonathan Turner

An autobiographical project in two forms: durational performance and video installation. The project explores issues of female identity, aging, reproduction, reproductive technologies and infertility. Princess is making, waiting and wanting. 'Spanton's durational, demanding performances manage to both stretch and shrink time: time running out, the importance of timing, the recurring cycles'. Cherry Smyth - catalogue essay for Princess: Clock Ticking. Recent performance and installation at SIA Gallery, Sheffield - 'A thought provoking piece! Strangest part... was the gathering of the 'lottery' balls - seemed to put so much emphasis on the reliance she has on all these numbers and figures and chances, and their importance to her, while they mean so little to everyone else. Lovely images of fragility with the bags and thin strings. A worthwhile visit!' - Audience feedback
