This sculpture is in response to a phenomenon that happens in the natural world. It evolved from the thought that beehive and flower head structures form a dome base that transform as they grow into rounded hexagons. When circles are packed together the edges become flatted making a series of rounded angles forming a triple junction within their assembly. These circular bases can be compared to oranges being too tightly packed together as they cannot help but be affected by their neighbour’s touch. The sculpture demonstrates this by moving the log around the hexagonal metal frame pushing the sand up to its neighbour creating rounded angles. Hence the hypothesis for the sculpture “they are both making circles that transform into rounded angles by default”. 1/12 editions
