Prompt IV
2025
Framed C-type photographic print
‘PROMPT (I–IV)’, 2025 presents a series of photographs of red wine glasses filled to the brim. While the imagery gestures toward luxury, evoking the sheen of advertising, the series also raises questions about labour and automation. Until recently, AI image generators were unable to accurately depict a representation of a glass completely full with liquid, this was due to a lack of appropriate reference data for the image generators to draw from. In response to this discovery, Jerrom staged and photographed a series of these scenes in his studio. Through the hiring and working alongside a professional photographer, he has created works that refer to image automation, but that are now both manual and traceable. Yet the process echoes the act of prompting AI, with slight variations among the images such as lighting, tone and composition. The works were swapped out during the duration of the exhibition, reflecting the procedural and generative logic they reference. In creating what AI could not, Jerrom also contributes to future datasets with the images disseminating online through exhibition blogs and social media, blurring the lines between human authorship and machine learning.
‘PROMPT (I–IV)’ was exhibited as part of ‘Liquidity’, a duo exhibition featuring Perce Jerrom and Débora Delmar at piloto pardo in London, UK. The exhibition ran from 4th October – 1st November 2025.
